Crickets

Crickets are both a great fishing bait and a pet food staple.  Crickets can be kept for a long time, if you plan ahead.  Some will tell you to keep them warm with a light.  Warmth and light ages the crickets.  Keep them cool...55-70 degrees and light is not needed, except for you to see.  Feed them just about anything....really.  Grain of any kind, it should be crushed or ground. Apples, Potatoes, Carrots, Alfalfa hay, fresh green plants of any kind.

When you order...order them smaller than you really want.  They grow well and the smaller they are to start....the longer they last.  Keep cages clean, keep plenty of egg crate fillers for housing, or tubes work well also. When the housing get dirty...through it away.  (Note: Crickets in the wild can live from Spring warm up till Winter Freeze)

Do not use open water to water....Crickets just think they can swim...they drown a lot better than they swim. You can use chicken water bottles, but fill the water bowl with foam.  Make sure the foam soaks up the water and holds it near the surface. Wash the foam each time you fill the bottle, and through away often. Or fresh veggies work very well to get moisture to them.  But the veggies will cause unpleasent smells when they pass their prime.

Fishermen....give your crickets a little bit of you fish cleanings.  A bunch of crickets will turn a Blue gill (after filleting) into a fish skeleton over night.

When shipping in cold weather...we add 72 hour heat packs.
